Bearcats Mount Comeback for Overtime Win

Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist pulled away in the overtime period to take the win over Missouri St.-Louis, 80-68. This win improves the Bearcats record to 8-5 (2-3 GLVC) for the season.

Kyleigh Vaught got the scoring started for the Bearcats with an early three. The Tritons kept the Bearcats in check, holding them under 50% field goal shooting in the first quarter but the Bearcats defense kept them close and were only down 5. The second quarter started with the Tritons scoring first but Bailey Rezabek had two baskets in the paint to cut into the lead. UMSL tried to pull away but 9 points from Rezabek and 4 from Zahria White helped to keep the Bearcats within striking distance going into halftime.

UMSL started off the third making two free throws to extend their lead to 7 but a quick 9-2 run by SBU tied the game back up at 39. The Bearcats didn't give any momentum back through the third, outscoring the Tritons by 6 to take a one-point lead. Southwest Baptist started out slow at the beginning of the fourth, surrounding the lead and trailing by 7 with 5:44 left in the game. Kyleigh Vaught kickstarted the Bearcats with a layup and foul and preceded to make the layup and starting a 11-4 run again to tie it up at 60 with 1:08 left. UMSL called a timeout to try and slow down the Bearcats but were unable to capitalize and the Bearcats took a 3-point lead. The game looked over, but the Tritons made a three pointer with 3 seconds remaining to force overtime.

Alexus Johnson showed out in overtime to secure the win for the Bearcats, making two threes within the first minute to take the lead. Johnson finished off overtime with 4 free throws to seal it for the Bearcats. Rezabek finished with 27 with Alexus Johnson (15), Zahria White (14), and Kyleigh Vaught (13) each scoring double digits as well. White led the team on the boards with 10 as well.
