Bolivar, Mo. – The Men's Basketball team fell to #23 Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon, 68-84. The loss is SBU's first since December 3, falling to 10-3 (3-2 GLVC) on the year.
Brady Smith gave SBU a quick 4-0 lead before UMSL got their offense going. Later in the half,
Godfrey Rolle hit a three pointer to push the lead back to 4, but the Tritons responded quickly. UMSL took their first lead of the game with 9:14 to go in the 1
st half. As the teams battled back and forth,
Damian Prgomet made a put-back dunk with 4:45 left, giving SBU a 27-26 edge. The Tritons made a layup as time expired in the first half, pushing their lead to 35-32.
The visitors jumped out to a quick start in the second half, expanding their lead to 47-32 with 17:03 remaining.
Godfrey Rolle made a three to put SBU on the board in the second half, followed with layups from
Mitch Ganote and
Joe Miller. A few minutes later,
Brady Smith threw down a massive dunk, and
Joe Miller drained a three, bringing SBU within 7 as the clock read 13:10. UMSL continued doing what they did all afternoon, nailing three pointers. With 6:04 remaining, UMSL took their largest lead of the afternoon in 22 points. With 4:44 left,
Brady Smith hit three 3's in a row, the last being a rare four-point play.
Godfrey Rolle made one more three before the end of the game, making a 68-84 final.
Brady Smith had a game leading 24 points with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Godfrey Rolle and
Joe Miller were the others in double digits, scoring 12 and 10 respectively. SBU out-blocked UMSL 8-1, but trailed in the rebound category, 29-41.
The Bearcats hit the road once again, traveling to Missouri S&T on Thursday, January 16 and Maryville University on Saturday, January 18.
