Pittsburg, Kan. – The SBU Volleyball team kicked off their 2019 season with the Pitt State Tourney. On Thursday evening, the Bearcats battled former MIAA rival Missouri Western. The Griffons took the match in 4 sets, dropping the Bearcats to 0-1 on the season.
The first set of the season was taken by the Griffons 25-18 in a hard fought battle. The Bearcats rebounded, winning the second set in extra points 27-25. Missouri Western took a 2-1 set lead with a 25-20 victory in the third set. The match was decided in the fourth set after Missouri Western won it 25-16.
Rebecca Rabius led the Bearcats in kills, collecting 16 on the night.
Delanie Tipton had 5 total blocks and
Makenzie Bouse led SBU with 30 assists. In the digs column,
Kylie Talbott collected the most with 15.
Game two for SBU in the Pitt State Tourney will be on Friday, September 6 at 7 PM against East Central.
