Bearcats Go 5-1 in Singles Play, Defeating Missouri Western 5-2


St. Joseph, Mo. – The women's tennis team continued their road trip with a match against Missouri Western Sunday morning. The Bearcats added a win to their record, defeating the Griffons 5-2.
 
In doubles play, the Griffons won on court #3, but SBU bounced back with a victory on court #2. Constanca Crespo and Diana Cabrera handled their opponents with ease, defeating them 6-0 to even the doubles score. MWSU claimed the doubles point, winning 7-5 on court #1.
 
Diana Cabrera helped even the score at 1-1 after she took down her opponent on court #4 in two straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0. Sarah Brown followed on court #5, winning 6-1 and 6-3 to give SBU their first lead of the afternoon. On court #1, Jill Van den Dungen defeated her nationally ranked opponent in two straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2 to boost SBU's lead to 3-1. Klara Vickov sealed the victory for the Bearcats, winning 6-3 and 6-1 on court #3. Constanca Crespo gave the Bearcats an insurance point, coming out on top in the first set 7-6, and running away with the second set 6-1. The Griffons claimed their second point on court #6, making the final 5-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
 
Prior to Sunday's match, the Bearcats sat in 4th place in the MIAA with a 4-2 conference record. The win boosts them to 5-2, creating a tie for 3rd place with Northeastern State. Washburn sits in 1st with a 7-0 MIAA record, and Central Oklahoma is 2nd at 6-1.
 
The Bearcats will take on the Washburn Ichabods at home on Saturday, April 13 starting at 12 PM.
