Maryville, Mo. – Southwest Baptist traveled north to compete against Northwest Missouri State Saturday afternoon. The green Bearcats, ranked 30
th nationally, defeated the purple Bearcats 5-2, moving SBU to 8-5 with a 4-2 record in conference.
In doubles play, Northwest won on all three courts. The match on court #3 was quick, 6-0. Court #2 was the next to finish, falling in a close match, 6-7. The result on court #1 was identical, SBU falling just short by a score of 6-7. The three doubles wins gave Northwest a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Constanca Crespo was the first to finish her singles play on court #2. She took her opponent, the #24 ranked player in the nation, to three sets, but fell in the third, 2-6, 6-0, 4-6.
Jill Van den Dungen got SBU on the board, winning on court #1. She defeated her opponent in two straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1. SBU was able to even the score at 2-2 thanks to a victory on court #3 from
Klara Vickov. Her match took 3 sets, but she came out on top, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6. Northwest bounced back, regaining the lead and taking the match by winning on courts #4, #6, and #5 to seal the victory 5-2.
The Bearcats continue their road trip up north, playing against Missouri Western on Sunday, April 7 starting at 10 AM.
