McMullin Goes 3-5 at the Plate in SBU's Two Losses to Washburn

Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats faced the defending MIAA regular season champions Saturday afternoon, Washburn taking both games by scores of 8-0 and 8-1. The losses move the Bearcats to 5-28 (2-6 MIAA).

Game One
The Ichabods started hot, scoring 2 in the 1st inning. Morgan McMullin got the offense going for SBU, reaching on an infield single with one out in the 2nd. Lauren Strobel followed with an infield single as well, McMullin moving up to third on a throwing error by the second baseman. Stobel stole second during the next at-bat, but both runners were stranded on base as the inning came to an end.

Washburn scored another in the 3rd, taking a 3-0 lead. Paige St. Pierre was the lone SBU base runner in the 3rd, reaching on an error by the shortstop. In the 4th inning, Morgan McMullin hit a one out double to left field, advancing to third on a ground out, but she wasn't able to score. The Ichabods rallied for 5 runs in the 5th, ending the game 8-0 via the run rule.

Game Two
Washburn had a couple base runners in the 1st inning, but solid defense from the Bearcats kept the Ichabods off the scoreboard. Miranda Aguilar was the first base runner for the Bearcats, leading off the 2nd with a walk.               Morgan McMullin followed with a fielder's choice and moved over to second on a ground out. Another ground out ended the inning without any damage done.

The Ichabods opened the game up in the 3rd, hitting back to back home runs to cap off a 4 run inning. They continued their momentum in the 4th inning, scoring another 3 runs to take a 7-0 lead. Leading off the 4th was Rachel Brown, smacking a double to left center. Megan Schellert then hit a hard ball to the first baseman, bouncing off her glove, but the second baseman was right there to complete the play, advancing Brown to third. Miranda Aguilar did her job, driving in Brown on a ground ball to the second baseman. Morgan McMullin tried to keep things going with a single to right field, but the Bearcats wouldn't score any more. Washburn scored once more, creating a final score of 8-1.

On the day, Morgan McMullin collected another 3 hits, going 3-5 through both games.

The Bearcats hit the road for the next 10 games, 5 series, beginning with William Jewell on Wednesday, April 10 at 2 PM.
