Oklahoma City, Okla. - SBU Men's Tennis knocked out Washburn in the final round of the MIAA Conference Championship. They come home with two trophies, regular season and conference tournament.
In doubles, David Szeri and Carlos Corser add the first point for the Bearcats by winning on court #3 6-3. The twins, Gyorgy Agoston and Ferenc Agoston, clinched the doubles point by beating their opponent on court #2 with only one break 7-5. Adham Gaber and Raul Caballero stopped at 5-5 since the Bearcats captured the doubles point.
In singles, Ferenc Agoston beat his opponent on court #6 in two straight sets. Adham Gaber defeated his opponent on court #1, who is nationally ranked #5, in two straight sets 7-6, 6-3 and making SBU one point away from winning the MIAA Conference Championship. The Ichabods managed to win on court #5 and made the score 3-1 SBU. Gyorgy Agoston gave the Bearcats the victory point by winning on court #3 in the final set 6-1.
SBU Men's Tennis won the MIAA Conference Championship for the second consecutive year. The last time the Bearcats won two consecutive MIAA Conference tournaments was the 2003-2004 season. With their conference win, the men's tennis team gets an automatic bid into regionals, but the official regionals rankings coming out on May 7th. Following the release, the Bearcats will know who they will face in the NCAA Central Region.
