Smith Throws 4-Hit Complete Game Shutout in 3-0 Win Against Missouri Western

St. Joseph, Mo. – The Bearcats wrapped up their series against Missouri Western Sunday afternoon, taking game three 3-0, and sealing the series victory two games to one. The win improves the Bearcats to 18-27 (10-20 MIAA) on the year.

Caleb Sneed continued his historic season with a single to left field in the first inning. Carl Schwettmann then walked, and both he and Sneed moved up a base on a passed ball during the next at-bat. Sneed later came around to score on a ground out, giving SBU an early 1-0 lead. Kyle Smith was on the bump for the Bearcats, pitching a gem of a game.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Griffons got two quick outs, but Carl Schwettmann kept the inning alive with a single up the middle. After Schwettmann stole second, Hunter Hisky was walked intentionally to create a force out at first, second, and third. The bases became loaded after Sam Avila drew a walk, and Jackson Soule singled to center field, driving in Schwettmann and Hisky, pushing SBU's lead to 3-0.

Neither team would plate any more runs, ending with a 3-0 final. Kyle Smith needed just 92 pitches to throw a 4-hit, complete game shutout.

The Bearcat play in their final road games against Rockhurst on Tuesday, April 30 at 4 PM and 6 PM.
