St. Joseph, Mo. – The Bearcats wrapped up their series against Missouri Western Sunday afternoon, taking game three 3-0, and sealing the series victory two games to one. The win improves the Bearcats to 18-27 (10-20 MIAA) on the year.
Caleb Sneed continued his historic season with a single to left field in the first inning.
Carl Schwettmann then walked, and both he and Sneed moved up a base on a passed ball during the next at-bat. Sneed later came around to score on a ground out, giving SBU an early 1-0 lead.
Kyle Smith was on the bump for the Bearcats, pitching a gem of a game.
In the top of the 3
rd inning, the Griffons got two quick outs, but
Carl Schwettmann kept the inning alive with a single up the middle. After Schwettmann stole second,
Hunter Hisky was walked intentionally to create a force out at first, second, and third. The bases became loaded after Sam Avila drew a walk, and
Jackson Soule singled to center field, driving in Schwettmann and Hisky, pushing SBU's lead to 3-0.
Neither team would plate any more runs, ending with a 3-0 final.
Kyle Smith needed just 92 pitches to throw a 4-hit, complete game shutout.
The Bearcat play in their final road games against Rockhurst on Tuesday, April 30 at 4 PM and 6 PM.
