Oklahoma City, Okla. - SBU Women's Tennis upset the number one seeded Washburn Ichabods in the Semifinals of the MIAA tournament, advancing to the final round.
In doubles,
Diana Cabrera and
Sarah Brown managed to win their doubles on court #3, 6-3. The Ichabods tied up the score by winning on court #1 with a score of 6-3. Washburn clinched the doubles point by beating SBU on court #2, 7-5, giving the Ichabods a 1-0 lead after doubles.
In singles,
Jill Van den Dungen beat the number 2 player in the nation on court #1 in two straight sets to tie up the total score 1-1.
Klara Vickov gave the Bearcats the lead for the first time by defeating her opponent on court #3 6-2, 6-3. The Ichabods come back by winning on court #4 in two straight sets, making the score 2-2.
Sarah Brown faught hard on court #6 and finally beat her opponent with a close score of 6-3, 6-3.
Constanca Crespo clinched the victory point for the Bearcats by winning on court #2 in a final set of 6-3.
SBU Women's Tennis took this competition with a final score of 4-2 and will advance to the final round of the MIAA Conference Championship. The Bearcats will face the number 2 seeded University of Central Oklahoma at 10AM Sunday morning.
