Lindenwood Takes Two in Final Weekend of Softball Action

Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats played host to the Lindenwood Lions Friday afternoon. The current MIAA, future GLVC, matchup went to the Lions, 12-0 and 5-1. SBU falls to 7-46 (3-21 MIAA) on the year.

Game One
Kori Hillenburg and Rachel Brown hit back-to-back singles in the first inning, but they were stranded on base. The Lions took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning, and doubled their score in the 3rd, making it a 6-0 game. Nicole Horstman led off the bottom of the 3rd with a single, but a double play and a ground out put an end to the inning.

Lindenwood boosted their lead to 10-0 after scoring another 4 runs in the 4th inning. The Bearcats picked up their fourth hit of the day on a Morgan McMullin single in the 4th, but a fielder's choice put an end to the inning. The visitors scored another two runs before the end of the game, creating a 12-0 final score.

Game Two
The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st after a couple of hits and moving runners around via small ball. Megan Schellert led off with a triple to get the SBU offense going, later scoring on a two out single from Rachel Brown. The next few innings were quiet offensively, both defenses playing well.

A two out rally by the visitors gave them a 2-1 lead in the 4th. Miranda Aguilar tried to get things going with a one out single in the 5th, but the Lions got out of the inning unharmed. It was in the 6th inning that the Lions scored the rest of their runs, creating a final score of 5-1.

Rachel Brown led the Bearcats offensively, going 3-5 at the plate with an RBI.

The Bearcats play their final series on Saturday, April 27 against Lincoln with start times of 1 PM and 3 PM. The senior recognition will take place BEFORE GAME ONE, at approximately 12:40 PM.
