Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats played host to the Lindenwood Lions Friday afternoon. The current MIAA, future GLVC, matchup went to the Lions, 12-0 and 5-1. SBU falls to 7-46 (3-21 MIAA) on the year.
Game One
Kori Hillenburg and
Rachel Brown hit back-to-back singles in the first inning, but they were stranded on base. The Lions took a 3-0 lead in the 2
nd inning, and doubled their score in the 3
rd, making it a 6-0 game.
Nicole Horstman led off the bottom of the 3
rd with a single, but a double play and a ground out put an end to the inning.
Lindenwood boosted their lead to 10-0 after scoring another 4 runs in the 4
th inning. The Bearcats picked up their fourth hit of the day on a
Morgan McMullin single in the 4
th, but a fielder's choice put an end to the inning. The visitors scored another two runs before the end of the game, creating a 12-0 final score.
Game Two
The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1
st after a couple of hits and moving runners around via small ball.
Megan Schellert led off with a triple to get the SBU offense going, later scoring on a two out single from
Rachel Brown. The next few innings were quiet offensively, both defenses playing well.
A two out rally by the visitors gave them a 2-1 lead in the 4
th.
Miranda Aguilar tried to get things going with a one out single in the 5
th, but the Lions got out of the inning unharmed. It was in the 6
th inning that the Lions scored the rest of their runs, creating a final score of 5-1.
Rachel Brown led the Bearcats offensively, going 3-5 at the plate with an RBI.
The Bearcats play their final series on Saturday, April 27 against Lincoln with start times of 1 PM and 3 PM. The senior recognition will take place
