SBU Softball Ends Run in MIAA with 10-5 Win over Lincoln

Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Softball team played their last series of the season Saturday afternoon, taking on the Lincoln Blue Tigers. The Bearcats split with the Blue Tigers, finishing their season and run in the MIAA with a W. SBU finishes with an 8-47 (4-22 MIAA) record.

Game One
The Bearcats put a run up early, scoring in the first thanks to a Megan Schellert leadoff triple later scoring on an error. Lincoln jumped ahead in the 3rd inning, scoring 3 runs. Lauren Strobel and Miranda Aguilar hit back-to-back singles in the 4th, but nothing would come of the threat.

The Blue Tigers loaded the bases in the 5th, but SBU got out of the jam unharmed. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Kaitlyn Bagby put one over the wall, bringing the Bearcats within one. However, they were unable to generate any more offense, ending with a 3-2 Lincoln final.

Game Two
The visitors quickly jumped to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Megan Schellert doubled to lead things off for SBU, coming around to score after Rachel Brown traded places with her. Morgan McMullin followed Brown, singling to left field and scoring Brown, making the score 3-2. Lincoln scored twice more in the 4th, but SBU wasn't out of it yet.

With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Lauren Strobel singled to left field. Miranda Aguilar then reached on an error by the third baseman, putting runners on first and second for Nicole Horstman. She hit a screamer at the shortstop, allowing her to reach base and scoring Strobel, bringing the score to 5-3. The bases were loaded for Kori Hillenburg, who brought all three runners home with a triple, giving SBU their first lead of the game.

The bottom of the 5th was another huge inning for the Bearcats. With two outs, Lauren Strobel, Miranda Aguilar, and Nicole Horstman hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. Extending their lead to 9-5. The 10th run came from Morgan McMullin, driving in Kori Hillenburg on a sacrifice fly in the 6th. Senior Hunter Middleton came in to pitch the 7th, surrendering just one hit and retiring 3 of the 4 batters she faced.
