Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats hosted the Tigers of Fort Hays State University Saturday afternoon, playing a rescheduled double header from earlier in the season. SBU split with FHSU, winning game one 3-1, but falling 0-5 in game two. The split brings the Bearcats to 6-43 (3-19 MIAA).
Game One
The first three SBU batters all singled to lead off the game, loading the bases. However, the Tigers pitched their way out of the jam, keeping the score at 0-0. With two outs in the 2
nd inning, the Tigers launched one over the wall to make the score 1-0.
Lauren Strobel and
Megan Schellert both picked up a hit in the 2
nd as well.
In the 5
th inning,
Megan Schellert picked up her third hit of the game, doubling to left field. With two outs in the inning,
Kori Hillenburg reached on an error, moving Schellert to third. SBU scored their first run on a passed ball, as well as putting a runner on third.
Miranda Aguilar drove in the go-ahead run, putting SBU up 2-1.
Lauren Strobel tacked on an insurance run in the 6
th, smacking a home run to left field. The Bearcats held their ground in the top of the 7
th, claiming a 3-1 victory.
Megan Schellert went 3-4 at the plate, and
Lauren Strobel went 2-3 with an RBI.
Maddie Massanelli got the win, throwing a complete game. She allowed just one run on 4 hits.
Game Two
The first couple of innings were quiet, neither team generating any offense. The Tigers broke things open in the 3
rd, scoring 4 runs.
Emily Hall reached in the 3
rd on a walk, becoming SBU's first baserunner of the game. In the 5
th inning, Hall reached on an infield single, breaking up the FHSU no hit bid.
Lauren Strobel was on base, moving her to second. However, the next Bearcat hit into a double play, ending the threat.
Paige St. Pierre and
Kori Hillenburg hit back to back singles in the 6
th, but they were stranded as the inning ended. The Tigers picked up their 5
th run in the 7
th inning, creating a final of 5-0.
SBU will host Drury in their next competition, taking place on Tuesday, April 23 at 2 PM.
