Schellert Shines in Home Doubleheader

 

Bolivar, Mo. - Southwest Baptist fell in a couple of high scoring affairs against Nebraska-Kearney. Game one ended with a final score of 9-3 and game two ending 2-4. These losses pushed the Bearcats record to 5-42 (2-18 MIAA).

Game One
Kearney got a couple in the first but the Bearcats responded with a run in the first as well on a Kaitlyn Bagby sacrifice to bring Megan Schellert in. SBU tacked on another in the second on a Megan Schellert single to the left side. Another run was scored in the fifth on Kori Hillenburg's one out double to bring the final score to 9-3.

Megan Schellert led the Bearcats at the plate with four hits in four appearances and scoring twice. Lauren Strobel also added two more hits to the cause.

Game Two
Kaylee Schmidli got the start only allowing 4 runs in seven innings. Kearney got on the board first four in the first six innings but SBU responded with two in the seventh. Kori Hillenburg walked to start the inning and later scored on a Morgan McMullin sacrifice. Emily Hall scored later on in the inning on a passed ball. The comeback fell short though bringing the final to 4-2.

Megan Schellert led the Bearcats going 3 for 4 effort at the plate. Rachel Brown contributed to the cause with three hits and a walk.

The Bearcats will be back in action at home for a double header against Fort Hays State on April 20.
