Bearcats Complete Final Road Trip

Pittsburg, Kan. – The Bearcats traveled to Pittsburg Stat Tueday for their last road trip this season. The Gorillas took game one by a score of 6-1, as well as game two by a score of 9-1. The losses bring SBU to 5-40 (2-16 MIAA).

Game One
The first few innings were very quiet, not much offense coming from either team. In the 4th inning, PSU broke the scoreless tie, taking a 2-0 lead on a home run. However, the Bearcats answered in the 5th inning, cutting the lead in half. Lauren Strobel drew a one out walk, and after a second out, advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. Megan Schellert then singled to left field, driving in Strobel and making the game 2-1 in favor of PSU.

Pittsburg State wasn't fazed, scoring 4 more runs in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 6-1 in their favor. Kori Hillenburg doubled to lead off the 6th, but the Gorillas got the next three outs very quickly, keeping the same score. SBU was unable to generate any more offense, ending in a 6-1 final.

Game Two
Megan Schellert led off the game with an infield single, advancing to second on a ground out but getting no further. The Gorillas jumped on the board quickly, scoring 4 runs in the 1st inning. PSU kept their momentum going, plating another 4 in the 3rd to break the game open with an 8-0 lead.

In the 4th inning, Kori Hillenburg hit a one out home run to center field, making the score 8-1. Morgan McMullin singled later in the inning, but nothing more would come from the threat. PSU scored their 9th run in the 4th inning, taking a 9-1 lead. SBU was unable to score in their half of the 5th, ending in a run rule.

The Bearcats return home for the remainder of the season, hosting Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays this upcoming weekend, April 19-20, as a make-up from earlier this season. The games against Nebraska-Kearney are scheduled to start at 1 and 3 PM.
