Pittsburg, Kan. – The Bearcats traveled to Pittsburg Stat Tueday for their last road trip this season. The Gorillas took game one by a score of 6-1, as well as game two by a score of 9-1. The losses bring SBU to 5-40 (2-16 MIAA).
Game One
The first few innings were very quiet, not much offense coming from either team. In the 4
th inning, PSU broke the scoreless tie, taking a 2-0 lead on a home run. However, the Bearcats answered in the 5
th inning, cutting the lead in half.
Lauren Strobel drew a one out walk, and after a second out, advanced to third on a throwing error by the pitcher.
Megan Schellert then singled to left field, driving in Strobel and making the game 2-1 in favor of PSU.
Pittsburg State wasn't fazed, scoring 4 more runs in the bottom of the 5
th to make the score 6-1 in their favor.
Kori Hillenburg doubled to lead off the 6
th, but the Gorillas got the next three outs very quickly, keeping the same score. SBU was unable to generate any more offense, ending in a 6-1 final.
Game Two
Megan Schellert led off the game with an infield single, advancing to second on a ground out but getting no further. The Gorillas jumped on the board quickly, scoring 4 runs in the 1
st inning. PSU kept their momentum going, plating another 4 in the 3
rd to break the game open with an 8-0 lead.
In the 4
th inning,
Kori Hillenburg hit a one out home run to center field, making the score 8-1.
Morgan McMullin singled later in the inning, but nothing more would come from the threat. PSU scored their 9
th run in the 4
th inning, taking a 9-1 lead. SBU was unable to score in their half of the 5
th, ending in a run rule.
The Bearcats return home for the remainder of the season, hosting Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays this upcoming weekend, April 19-20, as a make-up from earlier this season. The games against Nebraska-Kearney are scheduled to start at 1 and 3 PM.
