Hisky Drives in 7 in Doubleheader Sweep of McKendree

Bolivar, Mo. – SBU hosted McKendree in a non-conference double header Tuesday afternoon. Southwest Baptist swept the visiting Bearcats, 15-1 and 5-3 to improve to 15-23 (7-17 MIAA) on the year.

Game One
McKendree took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but it was short lived. Caleb Sneed led off the 1st inning with a single to left field. The Bearcats then loaded the bases with walks, and Jackson Soule drew a bases loaded walk to even the score at 1-1. In the second inning, Trevor Lofstrom hit a one out single to left field, and Caleb Sneed followed with a single the other way, into right field. Carl Schwettmann then drew a walk to load the bases for Hunter Hisky. He came in clutch, driving a double to left center, bringing home two runs and giving SBU their first lead of the game. Sam Avila drove in another run on a ground out, and Jackson Soule singled home Hisky, making the score 5-1 at the end of two innings played.

The Bearcats kept piling on the offense, scoring another 3 runs in the 3rd. Carl Schwettmann and Hunter Hisky were responsible for the RBIs in the inning, Hisky extending his SBU doubles record with his second of the day. Keeping the offense rolling, SBU scored another 5 runs in the 4th. Jackson Soule started the offense with a double to center, followed by a Tyler Mathys single that put Soule on third. Tyler Mathys then stole second, setting up Noah Tucker. Tucker drove in both runners, making the score 10-1. After the first out of the inning, Trevor Lofstrom launched one over the left center wall, putting the Bearcats ahead 12-1. Later in the inning, Hunter Hisky collected his third hit of the game, another double, picking up another RBI and putting SBU up 13-1.

In the 5th inning, Tyler Mathys hit a one out home run to left field, extending the lead to 14-1. SBU scored once more in the 6th, creating a final score of 15-1. Drew Wagner pitched 6.0 innings, giving up just one run on 6 hits.

Game Two
McKendree began the game with back to back home runs, taking an early 2-0 lead. SBU bounced back well, getting those two runs back right away. Caleb Sneed walked to lead off their half of the 1st, and a batter later, Hunter Hisky launched a home run to right field, evening the score at 2-2. McKendree led off the 2nd with a double, but solid defense and pitching kept the runner from scoring.

A couple of singles from Tyler Mathys and Brett Mitchell led to a scoring opportunity for SBU, scoring Mathys on a wild pitch to give SBU a 3-2 lead. In the 5th inning, McKendree evened the score at 3-3. SBU wasn't done though. Sam Avila singled to lead off the 6th. Hayden Crabtree then laid down a bunt, but the pitcher couldn't handle it, allowing Crabtree to reach base, as well as move Avila over to second. Both runners moved up a bag on a wild pitch, and Tyler Mathys drove in both runs on a single through the left side, putting SBU up 5-3. McKendree made a threat in the 7th, but SBU held on for the win, 5-3.

Hunter Hisky had a monster day at the plate, going 5-7 with 7 RBIs, three doubles, and a home run. Tyler Mathys also went 4-6 with 3 RBIs, driving in the game winning runs in game two.

SBU remains at home for their next series, hosting the Lindenwood Lions on Thursday-Saturday, April 18-20. Game one of the series is set to start at 3 PM on Thursday.
