Bolivar, Mo. – SBU hosted Emporia State for their final MIAA match of the regular season. The men's team swept the Hornets, winning all 7 points handily. The victory helps the Bearcats claim the regular season MIAA Championship, giving them the #1 seed heading into the MIAA tournament.
The twins,
Gyorgy Agoston and
Ferenc Agoston, got things going with a victory on court #2, sweeping their match 6-0.
Raul Caballero and
Adham Gaber sealed the doubles point victory with a 6-3 win on court #1, and
Carlos Corser and
Joao Almeida added an insurance victory on court #3, 6-2 the final score. SBU took a 1-0 lead into singles, but had no struggle, getting the 4 points.
Gyorgy Agoston finished first, defeating his opponent 6-1 and 6-2 on court #3.
Raul Caballero followed, losing only 1 game in his 6-0 6-1 victory on court #2.
Adham Gaber sealed the victory for SBU, winning in three sets on court #1, 6-1 6-7 6-0.
Carlos Corser added the 5
th point after his win on court #5, 6-2 6-2.
David Szeri and
Max Sanoja also won their matches on courts #4 and #6, giving SBU a clean sweep over Emporia State, 7-0.
The men's tennis team also won the MIAA regular season last season, but this marks the first time since 2004-05 that they have won back-to-back MIAA regular season championships.
The Bearcats hit the road for one final regular season match, taking on Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday, April 19 at 12 PM.
