Bolivar, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabods visited Bolivar on Saturday for a big MIAA matchup. The #45 ranked Ichabods were dominated by the #13 ranked Bearcats, 6-1 being the final score.
The Bearcats took the doubles point, winning two out of the three doubles matches. The twins,
Gyorgy Agoston and
Ferenc Agoston won their match with ease, defeating their opponents 6-1. The Ichabods then evened the doubles play with a win on court #1 from the #4 doubles team in the nation.
Carlos Corser and
David Szeri clinched the doubles point for the Bearcats with a victory on court #3, 6-3.
Gyorgy Agoston began singles play with a win in two straight sets, 6-3 and 6-4.
Adham Gaber followed with a humongous win on court #1. Gaber defeated Washburn's best player in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, and 6-4. That player is ranked #14 in the nation and goes back and forth with Gaber as the MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Gaber's big win gave SBU a 3-0 lead.
Raul Caballero sealed the victory for the Bearcats, clinching the match winning point on court #2 with a 7-5, 6-1 two set victory. Although SBU had already won, they weren't done.
David Szeri gave SBU their 5
th point, claiming a victory on court #4 by defeating his opponent 6-3 and 7-6 in two sets. He also dominated the tie breaker, not allowing his opponent a single point. Washburn got their lone point on court #6.
Carlos Corser claimed the 6
th and final point for SBU on court #5, winning 6-3 and 7-6 to wrap up the day.
The Bearcats have made a schedule change for their next match. The match against Emporia State was initially scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 14, but it will now be played on Monday, April 15 at 2 PM.
