Warrensburg, Mo. – The Bearcats opened conference play with a double header against Central Missouri Sunday afternoon. The Jennies won game one 3-0 and took game two 7-5. SBU falls to 3-24 (0-2 MIAA) on the year.
Game One
In the first inning,
Megan Schellert was hit by a pitch with two outs to extend the inning, but nothing more would come of the threat.
Morgan McMullin drew a walk to lead off the 2
nd inning, advancing to second on an error during the next play putting runners on first and second. A groundout moved both runners into scoring position, but the Jennies got out of the inning unharmed. Central Missouri broke the scoreless tie in the 2
nd inning, taking a 2-0 lead.
Miranda Aguilar walked to lead off the 4
th inning, but UCM got the next three Bearcats in a row to end the inning.
Megan Schellert had the lone SBU hit in the 6
th inning, reaching on an infield single with one out. The home team scored another run in the bottom of the 6
th, going ahead 3-0. The Bearcats were unable to get any more offense going, ending 3-0 in favor of UCM.
Game Two
Central Missouri scored first again in the second game, plating 1 run in the first inning.
Morgan McMullin singled up the middle with one out in the 2
nd inning. After a second out,
Rachel Brown also singled, moving McMullin to second, but that was all the further they'd go. The Jennies scored another two runs in the 2
nd inning, going ahead 3-0.
SBU roared back, taking the lead in the 3
rd. It all started when
Kori Hillenburg reached on an error. UCM got one out, but
Yezzania Gonzalez walked and
Megan Schellert singled up the middle to load the bases.
Miranda Aguilar followed with a single through the left side, driving in Hillenburg to put SBU on the board.
Morgan McMullin kept the hit train rolling, singling to center field, scoring Gonzalez and Schellert to even the score at 3-3. The next batter was
Kaitlyn Bagby who was hit by a pitch to load the bases once more. After a second out,
Nicole Horstman picked up an RBI with a walk, giving SBU a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the 3
rd.
In the bottom of the 4
th, UCM evened the score at 4-4. The Jennies kept the momentum, scoring another 3 runs in the 6
th inning to take a 7-4 lead as the game moved into the final frame. In the 7
th inning,
Morgan McMullin doubled to left center with one out. UCM got a second out, but
Rachel Brown singled to right field, scoring McMullin to cut the UCM lead to 7-5. SBU was unable to plate any more runs, ending 7-5.
Morgan McMullin went a perfect 4-4 in game two, driving in 2 RBIs and scoring a run herself.
Rachel Brown also had a multi-hit game, going 2-4 with an RBI on the afternoon.
The Bearcats are scheduled to play next at Missouri Southern on Tuesday, April 2 at 3 PM.
