Bulldogs Top Bearcats in Kirksville

Kirksville, Mo. – The Bearcats continued their road trip Tuesday afternoon, falling to Truman State 8-0 in game one and 4-0 in game two. With the loss SBU falls to 3-22 (0-0 MIAA) on the season.

Game One
Paige St. Pierre led off the game with a walk and Allison Petry followed with a hit by pitch. A wild pitch moved them both over, but Truman was able to get out of the inning with no damage done. The Bulldogs struck first, homering in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, Yezzania Gonzalez and Kori Hillenburg drew back to back two out walks, but again the home team maintained their poise.

The Bulldogs scored another two runs in the second inning, once more in the third, and again in the fourth, taking a 6-0 lead. With one out in the 5th inning, Paige St. Pierre doubled to left field and later advanced to third on a ground out, but a pop up left her stranded as the inning ended. The Bulldogs put an end to the game, scoring their 8th run in the 5th inning to end the game 8-0.

Game Two
Truman State got a runner to third in the first inning, but solid defense and pitching got the Bearcats out of the jam without any harm done. Rachel Brown drew a walk to lead off the second, later advancing on a sacrifice bunt. Following the bunt, Brown advanced to third on a groundout, but was stranded there.

The Bulldogs broke the scoreless tie, scoring an unearned run in the second inning to go up 1-0. In the fourth inning, Kori Hillenburg hit a base hit through the right side with one out, but the Bearcats couldn't bring her around to score. The home team scored twice more in the 4th and once more in the 5th, creating a 4-0 lead. The Bearcats were unable to do any more damage, making that the final score.

Kaylee Schmidli went all 6.0 innings, surrendering 7 hits and 3 earned runs.

SBU continues their road trip, taking on Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Saturday, March 30 at 1 PM.
