Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Women's Tennis team fell short Saturday morning, losing by a decisive point to #33 ranked Midwestern State with a final score of 3-4.
The Mustangs picked up the first win of the day on court #3 in doubles play, but
Diana Cabrera and
Constanca Crespo tied up the doubles score by winning on court #2, knocking off the #42 ranked doubles team. With the doubles point on the line,
Klara Vickov and
Jill Van den Dungen helped SBU take the doubles point by beating the #10 nationally ranked doubles team on court #1 by a score of 6-4.
In singles,
Constanca Crespo boosted the Bearcats to a 2-0 lead by winning on court #2 in two straight sets, 7-6 and 6-1. The Mustangs bounced back, winning on courts #1, #3, and #6 to take a 3-2 lead.
Jill Van den Dungen battled hard in two very close sets, 5-7 and 6-7, falling to the #13 singles player in the nation.
Sarah Brown came up huge for SBU, tying the score at 3-3 by capturing the point on court #5 in two straight sets, 7-6 and 6-4. MSU clinched and got the last victory point by winning on court #4 in three hard fought sets.
Crespo improves to 8-1 in singles play, winning her last 8 matches.
SBU Women's Tennis will be back in action at home tomorrow, March 24 starting at 1PM. The Bearcats will take on conference opponent, Lindenwood.
