Bolivar, Mo. – The FHSU Tigers visited Bolivar Friday afternoon. The Bearcats defeated the Tigers handily, winning 6-1 to improve to 6-4 (2-1 MIAA) on the year.
Due to potential weather, the teams decided to play singles first, getting the lengthy matches out of the way. Sophomore
Constanca Crespo gave the Bearcats their first point, dominating on court #2 in straight sets, not even dropping a game, 6-0 6-0. The Tigers then evened the score, winning on court #6, but SBU quickly regained the lead thanks to
Jill Van den Dungen's win on court #1, 6-1 6-1.
Diana Cabrera and
Sarah Brown followed with identical scores on courts #4 and #5 to clinch the win for the Bearcats, going ahead 4-1.
Klara Vickov wrapped up singles play with a strong 6-1 6-2 win on court #3 to put SBU up 5-1 heading into doubles play.
The doubles team consisting of
Constanca Crespo and
Diana Cabrera finished first on court #2, taking the match 6-2. Fort Hays bounced back, winning the doubles match on court #3.
Jill Van den Dungen and
Klara Vickov, the #2 doubles team in the nation, proved their worthiness of the ranking, clinching the doubles point with a dominating 6-0 win on court #1.
Southwest Baptist was originally scheduled to play Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, but due to weather that match will now take place on Monday, April 1 at 12 PM.
