Bolivar, Mo. - SBU Men's Tennis competed hard against against #16 Midwestern State, but couldn't finish the match due to the rain. When the match was called off, SBU was leading 3-2.
In doubles, the Mustangs managed to win on court #3, but
Raul Caballero and
Adham Gaber tied up the score by beating their opponents on court #1. Caballero and Gaber knocked off the #3 doubles team in the nation, defeating them handily 6-3. The twins,
Gyorgy Agoston and
Ferenc Agoston, clinched the doubles point by winning on court #2 in a tiebreak score 8-6 and giving the Bearcats the lead 1-0.
In singles,
Gyorgy Agoston extended the Bearcat lead to 2-0 by winning on court #3 two straight sets, 6-3 and 7-6, after coming back in the second set from down 1-4. MSU captured their first singles point on court #1 in a final set.
Raul Caballero played well, as his opponent was ranked #5 in the nation. Caballero won the first set 6-4 and took his opponent to three sets, but fell 4-6 in the final set. Freshman
Adham Gaber added another point to SBU, beating his opponent on court #2 in a final set, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. The Mustangs got their second point on court #4 by winning in two straight sets.
David Szeri and
Carlos Corser were mid-match on courts #5 and #6, but the play was put to a stop due to the rain causing slick courts. Szeri was a set up and trailing in the second, 1-4. Corser was mounting a comeback, 4-5 in his first set.
Gyorgy Agoston hit double digits with his win on Saturday, 10-1 is his record in singles. Gaber improves to 9-1 in his singles play on the season, currently ranked #46 in the nation.
SBU Men's Tennis will be back in action at home tomorrow, March 24 starting at 1PM. The Bearcats will take on conference opponent, Lindenwood.
