Kansas City, Mo. - The SBU Men's Tennis team captured their 9th victory of the season, beating the Rockhurst Hawks by a final score of 5-2 Wednesday afternoon.
In the doubles competition,
David Szeri and
Carlos Corser got the first point for the Bearcats on court #3, winning 6 games to 2. However, Rockhurst fought back, winning on court #2 with a close score of 7-5. After a long match on court #1, the Hawks clinched the doubles point by winning in a tie breaker 13-11.
In singles play,
Adham Gaber tied up the total score by winning court #2 in two straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1.
David Szeri picked up the next point for the Bearcats, winning on court #4 with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. On court #5,
Carlos Corser gave SBU their 3rd point with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. The match clinching point came from
Gyorgy Agoston, also winning in two straight sets, 6-0 and 6-3 to put SBU ahead 4-1.
Max Sanoja defeated his opponent on court #6, 6-4, 5-7, 10-3, giving SBU a fifth point. The Hawks won in three sets on court #1, giving them their second point and ending with a final score of 5-2 in favor of the Bearcats.
Adham Gaber is coming off of MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, improving his singles record to 9-1 on the season.
Gyorgy Agoston is 10-1 in singles play this season, with his only loss coming against #7 Hawaii Hilo in 3 close sets.
SBU Men's Tennis will be back in action home facing Midwestern State on March 23 at 1PM.
