Rolla, Mo. – In a single game matchup between the Missouri S&T Miners and the Bearcats on Tuesday, the Miners defeated the Bearcats 7-1. The loss moves SBU to 8-11 (3-6 MIAA) on the year.
The first few innings were played with solid defense from both squads, allowing just two S&T hits.
Drew Wagner was on the mound for SBU, his 6
th start of the 2019 season. In the bottom of the third inning, the Miners broke the scoreless tie, bringing home just one run. Missouri S&T continued their momentum in the fourth inning, scoring another to build their lead to 2-0.
Leading things off in the 6
th inning was
Tyler Mathys. He drove a double to left center, getting in scoring position with no outs.
Brett Mitchell followed with a single, driving Mathys in to cut the Miner lead in half.
Luke Winfrey was next at the plate, reaching on a bunt single down the first base line. The SBU momentum came to a stop there as the Miners were able to get the next three Bearcats in order. S&T wasted no time responding, as they scored another in the 6
th, making the score 3-1.
With one out in the 7
th inning,
Jackson Soule singled up the middle and later stole second to move into scoring position. After a second out,
Tyler Mathys reached on a walk, but the inning came to an end on a fielder's choice. Missouri S&T scored the remainder of their runs in the bottom of the 7
th, heading into the 8
th with a 7-1 lead.
Caleb Sneed hit a one out double to left center field, and
Noah Tucker was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1
st and 2
nd for the Bearcats in the 8
th. However, neither of those runners would come around to score. No offense was able to generate in the 9
th, creating a final score of 7-1 in favor of S&T.
Drew Wagner threw 5.2 innings, giving up just 2 earned runs on 8 hits. Five different Bearcats collected hits on the afternoon,

The Bearcats return home for their next competition, opening a series with the Central Missouri Mules beginning Friday at 3 PM.
