Lebanon, Ill. – In a double header scheduled after the season began, McKendree defeated Southwest Baptist 6-0 in game one, and 10-3 in game two. The losses put SBU at 1-12 (0-0 MIAA) on the season.
Game One
Megan Schellert got things going right off the bat for SBU, reaching on a single to the second baseman.
Paige St. Pierre moved Schellert to second on a sacrifice bunt, and Schellert was able to reach third on a ground out, but she was stranded there as the inning came to an end. McKendree got their offense going early as well, scoring two runs in the first. SBU was able to get two quick outs in the second, but McKendree got a rally going, scoring another two.
In the top of the third,
Emily Hall drew a walk to lead things off.
Kori Hillenburg was able to move Hall to second thanks to a successful sac bunt, but Hall would be unable to score. In a similar manner to the first two innings, McKendree scored two more, taking a 6-0 lead. In the fifth inning, McKendree's leadoff batter reached on a single, but the next batter hit into a 6-4-3 double-play, helping SBU get two major outs. In the top of the 7
th,
Kaitlyn Bagby walked to lead things off.
Taryn Elia took over at first, pinch running for Bagby.
Morgan McMullin then hit into a fielder's choice, Elia out at second. Moving McMullin to third was
Rachel Brown, driving a single to center field. A ground out put the threat to an end, giving McKendree a 6-0 win in game one.
Game Two
With one out in the first inning,
Paige St. Pierre singled through the left side. The next batter was
Kaitlyn Bagby, doubling to left center and moving St. Pierre over to third. After a second out,
Morgan McMullin smacked a double down the left field line, driving in both runners on base, taking an early 2-0 lead. McKendree responded with a run in their half of the first as well. In the second inning,
Taryn Elia drew a two out walk and moved to second thanks to a
Megan Schellert single.
Paige St. Pierre kept the offense rolling, driving in Elia on a double down the right field line. Again, McKendree responded, scoring two to tied the game a 3-3.
Sam Moran drew a walk to lead off the third inning,
Miranda Aguilar doing the same one out later. The Bearcats were unable to keep their scoring streak going, stranding Moran and Aguilar on base. The SBU defense held their own in the bottom of the third and fourth, taking a 3-3 ball game into the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, McKendree took a 5-3 lead, scoring two in the inning.
Miranda Aguilar singled to lead off the 6
th inning, but wouldn't make it any further. The home team scored 5 more in the 6
th, creating a 10-3 final.
Paige St. Pierre went 3-4 in game two, scoring a run and also driving one in.

Miranda Aguilar were responsible for the other SBU hits.
