Pittsburg, Kan. – In the third game of the series, Pittsburg State defeated Southwest Baptist 13-3, taking the series 2 games to 1. The loss moves SBU to 6-6 (1-2 MIAA) on the season.
Caleb Sneed led the game off with an infield single, but a double play and a ground out brought the inning to an end. The Gorillas scored 1 run in the bottom of the first, drawing a bases loaded walk. The third inning is where Pitt State did most of their damage, scoring 6 runs. Leading things off in the top of the fourth was
Hunter Hisky. He singled through the left side.
Jackson Soule followed, reaching base on a dropped fly ball by the center fielder, advancing to second and moving Hisky to third. Carl Schwettmann then drove in Hisky on a single to right field. The next batter was
Blake Hobbs, reaching on a base hit bunt to the pitcher, and scoring Soule on the play. SBU trailed PSU 2-7 at the end of the inning.
In the top of the sixth,
Jackson Soule singled up the middle to get the offense rolling. With one out,
Blake Hobbs singled through the left side, and advanced Soule into scoring position. Following Hobbs was
Blake Lutgen, driving in Soule on a single to left field, 3-7 Gorillas. Pitt State led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run, building the lead back up to 5.
Caleb Sneed smacked a double down the left field line with one out in the seventh, but he was unable to come around and score.
The home team did a majority of the rest of the damage in the bottom of the seventh, scoring 4 unearned runs to take a 12-3 lead. The scored another run in the 8
th, creating a 10 run lead after seven innings, putting an end to the game.
Caleb Sneed went 3-4 on the afternoon.
Blake Hobbs was the other Bearcat with the multi-hit game, going 2-4 with an RBI. In the series, Sneed went 5-10 with 5 walks.
The Bearcats are scheduled to play a weekend series against the FHSU Tigers in Hays, KS starting on Friday, March 1 at 3 PM.
