Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats hosted Central Christian College of the Bible in a Friday night matchup, beating the Saints 89-47. With the win, SBU improves to 6-2 (0-1 GLVC) on the season.
It took the Bearcats 3:22 to score their first basket, falling behind 7-2. After trailing 10-2 with 15:54 on the clock, SBU scored the next 17 points to jump ahead 19-10. That run consisted of points from 5 different Bearcats. A few minutes later, SBU took their first double-digit lead of the game and never looked back. Late in the first half,
Quinn Nelson hit three 3's, nearly all in a row, to help SBU to 45-17 point lead at the half.
The second half started out much different than the first, with the first points coming off a
Godfrey Rolle steal that led to a
Brady Smith dunk, assisted by
Quinn Nelson. SBU quickly built their lead to 30, continuing to separate themselves from the Saints. Midway through the second, SBU scored in the paint on 4 straight possessions. Those possessions included two scores each from
Juan Morales and
Tyler Williams.
Ian Jones and
Abiodun Ayetimiyi got in on the action as well, nailing mid-range jumpers. Later in the half,
Kent Thomas drained back-to-back three's, pushing the lead to 41 points. SBU sealed the victory after a steal by
Kase Kilchrist, leading to an
Ian Jones dunk, 89-47.
The Bearcats shot 52.9% from the field, holding the visitors to 30.4%. The scoring was spread heavily throughout the team, as 15 different Bearcats recorded a score and only 2 were in double-digits.
Mitch Ganote shot a perfect 4-4, scoring 10 points and 6 assists.
Damian Prgomet got the rebound portion of the double-double with 10, but scored 6 in his 14 minutes played.
The Bearcats have one more game before Christmas, playing host to Tabor College on Monday, December 16 at 11 AM. That game is Kid's Day at the Game.
