Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico - Southwest Baptist got off to a hot start on their out of state visit, beating UPR Rio Piedras 79-55. This helps to improve the Bearcats record to 5-3 on the season.
SBU started out hot going up 25-17 in the first quarter. The hot shooting and good defense continued in the second quarter to help the Bearcats finish shooting 56.7% from the field, 40% from deep, and 71.4% from the charity stripe. The Bearcats were able to hold the Roosters to just 30% shooting from the field for the first half. Hot shooting wasn't quite the story of the second half but the Bearcats still outscored UPR by 8 in the second half. UPR shot 44% in the second half while SBU only shot 42.4% but made 3 more baskets than UPR. Southwest Baptist led in every category to help lead them to the dominating win.
Kyleigh Vaught had a stellar performance going 5-5 from the field including 2 from deep and 2 at the line for 14 points.
Bailey Rezabek also contributed 14 points to help her 18.4 points per game season average.
Zahria White cleaned up on the boards, bringing in 12 rebounds. White followed that up with 13 points as well. Eight more players added points for the Bearcats as well as
Sydney Bandy grabbing 8 boards.
The Bearcats will finish up their Puerto Rico trip against UPR-Mayaguez on the 17th and then back to face McKendree in Lebanon, Illi on January fourth.
