Ellensburg, Wash. – The Bearcats wrapped up their road slate Saturday when they traveled to Ellensburg, Washington to take on the Wildcats of Central Washington. The Wildcats would use a 38-point first half to defeat the Bearcats 72-17. SBU falls to 3-7 (1-5 GLVC) on the year with just one game left to play.
SBU received the opening kickoff and would took advantage of it. A 21-yard rush from Jarvis Funk was the highlight of the drive that ended with a 27-yard field goal from Kyle Ghetes. CWU managed to score on their first two drives to take a 14-3 lead. SBU then ran into another problem when starting quarterback Brenden Smith would leave the game the ensuing drive with an ankle injury. CWU proceeded to find the end zone once more in the period to give the Wildcats a 21-3 lead after 1 quarter.
The first play of the second quarter was a Bryce Cabrera 11 yard-rush, but the Bearcats would be forced to punt again. However, the punt was blocked, setting up a Wildcat field goal. The Bearcats would face three straight three-and-outs. Keeping their momentum, CWU took a 38-3 lead at halftime
The SBU defense stuffed the Wildcats to start the 2nd half, forcing a three-and-out. On the ensuing possession, the Bearcats would show off their quick strike ability when Isaiah Ramsey connected with Curtis Cuillard for a 30-yard gain. Bryce Cabrera took the next play 21 yards to the 6-yard line before Ramsey would find Raldy Mena for a 6-yard touchdown to cap off the 3-play drive, bringing the score to 38-10. The Wildcats managed score 20 straight to end the 3rd quarter, leading 58-10.
The Bearcat quick strike offense found the end zone to begin the fourth quarter, thanks to a 38-yard run by Cameron Singletary, followed by a 37-yard touchdown run by Dominique Lee to bring the score to 65-17. The Wildcats scored one more time to come to the final score of 72-17.
Isaiah Ramsey would lead the bearcats in passing with 70 yards and a touchdown. Bryce Cabrera led the rushing attack with 54 yards. Dominique Lee added with 44 yards and a touchdown. Eric Knight received a majority of the carries and contributed 28 yards. Curtis Cuillard led the bearcats with 37 yards receiving while Raldy Mena added in the touchdown.
The Bearcats will be back in action Saturday, November 16 at 1 PM for their season finale in Bolivar when Lindenwood comes to Plaster Stadium. The seniors will be recognized at that game.
