Bolivar, Mo. – It was Senior Day Saturday in Bolivar and 18 seniors were honored. The Lions from Lindenwood University defeated the Bearcats 42-10 behind an explosive day in the run game. The loss drops the Bearcats to 3-8 (1-6 GLVC).
SBU won the toss but elected to defer. SBU's defense would hold the high-powered Lions to several 3rd downs and even a 4th down but would ultimately find the endzone to strike. Dylan Mountain would respond by leading a 9-play drive highlighted by an 18-yard scramble, ending with a 37-yard field goal by Kyle Ghetes. Both teams punted their next drive to end the first quarter. Lindenwood led 7-3.
The Lions would start the 2nd quarter by finding the endzone to extend their lead to 14-3. The SBU offense sputtered and would go three and out the next three possessions. Finding some life on their next possession, Rashad Blunt drew a couple pass interference penalties. A strip sack of Mountain put the drive to a stop on the Lindenwood 11-yard line. A couple second quarter touchdowns gave the Lions a 21-3 halftime lead.
The Lions run game would once again find the endzone on their first drive of the 3rd quarter. Dylan Mountain orchestrated a masterful 14 play 75-yard drive that ended in the endzone thanks to a great snag by Chance Deitz. However, Lindenwood led the Bearcats 35-10 going into the final quarter of play.
The 4th quarter began with an SBU punt. The offense found some rhythm late highlighted by a 20-yard rush by Demarco Grayson but ultimately wouldn't find the endzone as the Lions takes the game 45-10.
Dylan Mountain led the passing game with 208 yards and a touchdown. He also led the team in rushing as he pitched in 45 yards on the ground. DeMarco Grayson contributed 33 yards on the ground as well. Curtis Cuilard led the Bearcats in receiving with 70 yards.
This game marks the end of the 2019 season for the Bearcats, finishing 3-8 (1-6 GLVC) on the season. Check out the season statistics here.
