Prgomet Records Double-Double in Season Opener

Nashville, Tenn. – The SBU Men's Basketball team opened their 2019-20 season with a game against Trevecca Nazarene in the Trevecca Classic. The Bearcats had a near 20-point win, defeating the Trojans 64-45, helping SBU to a 1-0 record to start the year.

TNU got on the board first, but Brady Smith drained a three for his first official points as a Bearcat, putting SBU ahead 3-2. The teams were later knotted at 8, but SBU scored 8 straight to take a 16-8 lead. Damian Prgomet had 5 of those points in that run. Mitch Ganote and Tyler Williams each made a shot in the paint, boosting SBU's lead to 20-11 with 8 minutes left in the half. The Trojans inched the score back to 23-17, but Quinn Nelson converted a rare 4-point play, followed by a Houston Johnson layup to get back to a 29-17 SBU lead. SBU ended the half with a 6-3 run, creating a 35-20 halftime score.

Damian Prgomet made the first two buckets of the second half, Brady Smith picking up an assist on one of those baskets. The Bearcats kept their foot on the gas, pushing their lead to 25 with 9:53 remaining in the game. Trevecca fought back to get within 16 a couple of times, but Damian Prgomet and Tyler Williams kept SBU at a comfortable lead, ending with a 64-45 final.
