Four Bearcats Score Double Digits in Loss to LSSU

Nashville, Tenn. - Wrapping up the Trevecca Classic Saturday morning, SBU took on Lake Superior State. In their final game of the opening weekend tournament, SBU fell short to Lake Superior State, 77-85. They move to 1-1 on the season.

The first basket for the Bearcats was scored by Damian Prgomet, followed by a 3 from Mitch Ganote to give SBU their first lead of the day. Around 5 minutes into the game, Kent Thomas nailed a three to give SBU a 5-point lead. Around the 12-minute mark, Quinn Nelson hit a jumper to put SBU ahead 18-12. On LSSU's next possession, Damian Prgomet stuffed the Lakers shooter and Nelson recovered the rebound. Just over halfway through the 1st half, LSSU battled back to just a 2-point SBU lead. The teams really battled back and forth, but the Lakers ended up gaining a solid lead late in the half. Quinn Nelson made a three with 25 seconds before halftime, creating a 44-34 LSSU lead at the half.

Although SBU hit a couple of 3's early in the 2nd half, Lake Superior State kept up and maintained a pretty solid lead. Close to the 11-minute mark, Damian Prgomet scored a layup and was fouled, later converting the three-point play with a free throw. SBU's next score was another Kent Thomas 3, bringing SBU back within 7. Quin Nelson continued his hot hand late in the game, sinking a three and a free throw to cut the lead to 66-62. With 2:43 to go, Godfrey Rolle nailed a shot from beyond the arc, making the score 70-73 in favor of the Lakers. After an LSSU free throw, Rolle made a layup to make it a 2-point contest. However, the Lakers stayed strong until the end to win 85-77.

Quinn Nelson went 4-9 from three-point range, helping him get 15 points. He also had 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Damian Prgomet neared another double-double, scoring 13 points with 8 rebounds, adding 3 blocks as well. Godfrey Rolle and Brady Smith also had double digit points, scoring 13 and 11 respectively.
