Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats started off strong and didn't look back, defeating the Trojans 86-35. This win helps to improve SBU's record to 4-2 on the year.
To start the game Southwest Baptist was awarded a team technical due to the shot clock not being able to sound the horn. Hannibal-LaGrange made one of the free throws to take a 1-0 lead to start the game. The Bearcats then went on a 15-0 run to take a 15-1 lead.
Bailey Rezabek helped to propel them on the run scoring 6 of the 15. Passing played a key role in the first quarter with the Bearcats assisting on 5 of their 8 baskets. Southwest Baptist extended the lead to as much as 24 in the second quarter but the Trojans made a run late to cut the gap to 17 going into halftime.
Alexus Johnson led the Bearcats in the 3
rd quarter with 5 points and 2 rebounds. Southwest Baptist finished the game strong only allowing 9 points in the 3
rd and 6 in the 4
th quarter. The Bearcats also shot above 50% in both the 3
rd and 4
th quarter.
Kyleigh Vaught led the Bearcats with 15 points and 4 assists.
Bailey Rezabek and
Alexus Johnson also had 13 points followed by
Brylee Graddy with 12 and
Kyla McIntosh with 11.
Zahria White and
Regan Tibbits cleaned up on the board with 8 and 7 rebounds respectively. Assists were in abundance with 7 players finished with at least 1 assist. The Bearcats played suffocating defense as well with 8 players having 1 or more steals and forcing 28 total turnovers.
The Bearcats will not be back at home until January 9 but will play on the road in Springfield, Mo. against Drury on December 3 at 5:45 PM.
