Football Topped by Miners in Rolla

Rolla, Mo. – The Bearcats traveled to Rolla, MO Saturday to take on GLVC foe Missouri S&T Miners. S&T would use a 31 point 1st half to sprint to a 62-0 win over SBU. The Bearcats fall to 3-6 (1-5 GLVC) for the season.

SBU won the toss and would choose to defer to the second half. S&T converted on a 4th down attempt to jump out to a 7-0 lead. SBU would go three and out on all four 1st quarter drives. Two long touchdown passes from the Miners would the home team a 21-0 lead after one.

SBU's first drive of the 2nd quarter was highlighted by a 12 yard run from Brenden Smith. Three plays later, the drive would end after an interception. The Miners turned that into a field goal to extend the lead to 24-0. SBU used three receptions by Curtis Cuillard and a 14 yard run by Bryce Cabrera to drive to the S&T 17 before the Miners caused a fumble and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown to take a 31-0 lead going into halftime.

The ground assault continued for Brenden Smith on the first drive of the 2nd half and would have another 14 yard rush before the drive would stall with a punt. A shanked punt would give the Miners great field position. Capitalizing on the great field position, S&T found the end zone once again to expand the lead to 38-0. The turnover bug struck the Bearcats again after another promising drive would end at the hands of a fumble. Brenden Smith and Bryce Cabrera kept pounding the football on the ground in the 3rd quarter but could not find the end zone. The Miners would take a 45-0 lead into the final quarter of play.

SBU turned to the air in the 4th quarter to no avail. Each of the Bearcats drives would end in a 3 and out or an interception. Missouri S&T was able to find the end zone a couple more times and the game came to an end with the Miners holding a 62-0 advantage.
