Bolivar, Mo. – The Bearcats picked up their third win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Hannibal-LaGrange 89-72. With the win, SBU improves to 3-1 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.
SBU came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, making 7 of their first 10 shots with 4 of those being three pointers. With the clock at 14:30, SBU led 18-5. SBU's next two baskets were also three pointers, those from
Trent Smith and
Houston Johnson. The Trojans kept eating away at the deficit, coming back to 24-29 SBU and later in the half 30-35. The teams stayed pretty equal for the remainder of the half, heading into halftime with a 42-37 Bearcat lead.
The Trojans scored first in the second half, bringing the deficit to just 3. However, the Bearcats got the momentum back on their side after
Godfrey Rolle nailed a three, and
Brady Smith slammed one home on a feed from
Quinn Nelson. Around the 14 minute mark, Rolle and
Lucas Brueggemann hit back-to-back three's to stretch SBU's lead back into double digits. SBU then began to pull away, leading by 16 with 4:45 remaining. With just over 3 minutes remaining,
Damian Prgomet scored the next 9 points for SBU, pretty much sealing the game.
Brady Smith put one last dunk on his former team, and
Godfrey Rolle made a jumper to end it, 89-72.
The Bearcats had 3 players in double-digits,
Damian Prgomet with 20,
Brady Smith with 19, and
Godfrey Rolle with 19. Against his former team, Smith shot 8-10 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc. He also came down with 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Godfrey Rolle led the team in the assists category, dishing out 7 in the victory. Those three shot a combined 23-32, 71.2% from the field.
