Smith and Miller Near Double-Doubles as Bearcats Down Eagles

Bolivar, Mo. – The men's basketball team hosted Williams Baptist University in a Saturday afternoon matchup, defeating the visitors 75-57. The win is SBU's third straight, improving their record to 4-1 (0-0 GLVC) this season.

The Bearcats wasted no time scoring their first bucket, well 3 seconds to be exact. After winning the tipoff, Damian Prgomet hit Joe Miller in stride who threw down a dunk for the game's first score. Williams Baptist struggled on the offensive end as SBU's defense kept the Eagles scoreless until the 12:13 mark. In that scoreless run, SBU took a 16-0 lead. Once the visitors scored their first basket, the Eagles hit several more shots, making the score 19-9 just under halfway through the first half. Godfrey Rolle, Brady Smith, and Mitch Ganote later scored on consecutive possessions, building their lead back to 16 with a 29-13 lead. The Bearcats maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the half, taking a 39-28 lead into halftime.

Williams Baptist got the lead down to 9 early on in the 2nd half, but Godfrey Rolle quickly hit a three to keep SBU in a comfortable lead. Starting around the 16-minute mark, Quinn Nelson scored 9 straight points followed by a Mitch Ganote jumper to boost SBU to a 57-37 lead. The Bearcats took their largest lead of the night, 29 points, as Brady Smith made a free throw with 6:17 to go. The game came to an end with a final score of 75-57.

Brady Smith and Joe Miller both finished 1 rebound shy of a double-double, Smith scoring 15 points and Miller with 13. Quinn Nelson also added 14 points on 4 three's and a couple of free throws. Godfrey Rolle managed to hit the double-digits in scoring as well with 11, adding 5 assists and 3 steals to his stat line also.

The Bearcats meet an old conference opponent for their next matchup, as they take on Fort Hays State in Kansas City on Tuesday, November 26 at 1:30 PM.
