Tyler Curts

Tyler Curts will be entering his second year (2025-26) as a full time member of the SBU Football Coaching Staff. Currently, Curts serves as the Co-Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach. 

Before coming to SBU, Curts served as an assistant coach at Northwest Missouri State University (2021), in Maryville, MO, working with Defensive Backs and Special Teams.  He was a part of a defense that finished 4th in the NCAA in Total Defense at the Division II level, won a MIAA outright conference title, aided in the development of 3 All-Americans including Cliff Harris Award Winner Sam Roberts, multiple All-Conference recipients including 1st Team All-Conference Defensive Back Cahleel Smith, MIAA special teams player of the week Mike Hohensee (Week 1),  and helped mold a conference best team GPA of 3.14.   Prior to coaching, Curts completed his undergraduate degree in physical education from Southwest Baptist Univeristy in 2017 which included him playing for SBU where he was a 3-time Captain, twice being unanimous, at Linebacker from 2013-2018.   He started over 50 games in his career finishing second all-time in career tackles, was a 3 year all conference player, and helped lead a defense and team to the only GLVC championship in school history as well as a NCAA playoff appearance (2016).  Curts is a Bolivar native where he is a Skyline High School graduate and currently resides in the Bolivar area. 

Curts resides in Bolivar with his wife Morgan, a Bearcat softball alumni.
