MJ Swortwood

MJ Swortwood is entering his first year (2022-23) as a member of the SBU Football Coaching Staff. Swortwood will serve as the Wide Receiver Coach and Special Teams Coordinator.
 
Prior to coming to SBU, Coach Swortwood served as the Offensive Coordinator along with the quarterbacks and the wide receivers at Beggs High School in Beggs, OK. During his four-year stint at Beggs, the football program went 46-11, including a State Runner-Up and three semi-final appearances. Coach Swortwood’s offense averaged 45 points per game and 398 yards of offense per game.  In 2017, MJ served as the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receiver Coach at Miami High School in Miami, OK.  
 
MJ was a graduate assistant at SBU in 2016 and 2015. During that time, he served as the Running Back position (2016) and Assistant Defensive Back coach (2015). Under his tutelage, running back Bubba Jenkins set many records. Jenkins became the All-Time rushing leader in GLVC history (3,024 yards) along with breaking?the SBU & GLVC single season rushing record (1,560 yards). Jenkins finished 3rd in the nation in?rushing yards and earned Don Hansen All-American Honors.  
 
In 2014, Swortwood was a student-assistant and assisted with the Quarterback position. During his time as a student-athlete, he played Quarterback for the Bearcats football team.   
 
MJ graduated from Southwest Baptist University with his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in May of 2015 and his Master of Science in Education/Athletic-Activity Administration in May of 2017.  
 
MJ Swortwood currently resides in Bolivar, Missouri with his wife Rachel (2014 SBU graduate), and their daughter Gracie and son Brody.
