Brice Carlson will be entering his first year (2018-19) on the Southwest Baptist University Football Coaching staff. Carlson serves as the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator.
Prior to coming to SBU, Carlson has had previous coaching stops at Malone University, Lindenwood University, University of West Georgia, Delta State University, and Becker College. The Georgia native’s most recent coaching position was at Malone University in the 2017 season where he served as the Offensive Line Coach. While at Malone, Coach Carlson improved the team’s sacks given up, tackles for loss allowed, and games with over 100 yards rushing. He also coached Zak Hill to a 2nd Team All-GMAC Conference award.
Before coaching at Malone, Coach Carlson served as the Offensive Line Coach and Run Game Coordinator for the 2016 season at Lindenwood University. At Lindenwood, Carlson improved a rushing attack that finished with an average of 156.6 yards per game rushing, which was an increase of 52.7 yards per game rushing from the 2015 season. The vast improvement helped Lindenwood move up in the overall MIAA rushing standings from 11th in 2015 to 7th in 2016. Additionally, Carlson created lanes for a rotation of three running backs to average a combined 4.7 yards per carry. Carlson also coached Deshawn Lawson to an All-MIAA honor on the Offensive Line.
Prior to being at Lindenwood, Carlson coached the 2015 season at the University of West Georgia as the Offensive Line Coach. Carlson led a rushing attack that averaged 220.2 yards per game rushing on their way to a Gulf South Conference Championship and a semifinal berth in the Division II NCAA Football Championship. On his offensive line at West Georgia, Carlson had multiple All-American and All-Conference honorees. Dominique Robertson and Orion Awa-Dubose were both All-Gulf South honorees and named All-Americans by Don Hansen, D2Football, and AP Little. Carlson also had Harley Vaughan named 2nd Team All-Gulf South as a center in his first year playing the position.
Before coaching at West Georgia, Coach Carlson served as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach for the 2013 and 2014 seasons at Delta State University. At Delta State, Carlson coached part of an offense that averaged 44 points per game, gave up only 10 sacks, won a Conference Championship in 2014, and earned a berth in the 2nd Round of the NCAA Football Championship in 2014. In his tenure at Delta State, Carlson also coached multiple offensive linemen that earned All-Conference recognition.
Prior to stopping at Delta State, Carlson had his first coaching job at Becker College for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. He served as the Offensive Line Coach and Recruiting Coordinator where he had multiple All-Conference and All-Area Offensive Lineman. At Becker, Carlson had freshman center Tim Farina voted to the All-Worcester Area Team.
Carlson graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sport Management and minor in Education in May of 2011. During his time as a player at Guilford College, Carlson started 30 consecutive games on the offensive line with the majority of them at center. Carlson went on to earn his Masters of Science Degree in Human Performance with a Concentration in Sports Administration in 2015 from Delta State University.
Carlson resides in Bolivar, Missouri.
