Coach McElroy comes to SBU after serving as the Head Varsity Coach for the Dulaney Lion 2022. He led the Lions to win the 4A North Regional Championship, and advanced to the State Semi-Finals in his one season as Head Coach.
Previously he served as an Assistant Varsity Coach for the Gilman Greyhounds in the MIAA A Conference. He coached there for the previous 8 years. The Greyhounds made the playoffs in each of the 8 seasons there, advancing to the finals 3 times, and winning the Championship in 2021. He had the privilege of coaching 2 professional players in his time at Gilman: Peter Heubeck (2021, 3rd Round Dodgers) and Maxwell Costes (2022 Free Agent Orioles)
Prior to that he spent 1 season as an Assistant coach at Montreat College in Black Mountain, North Carolina. They finished with a 24-26 record and made it to the conference tournament.
McElroy spent the summers of 2012 and 2013 coaching out in Colorado as the Pitching coach for the Fort Collins Foxes in 2012. They won the Mountain Collegiate Baseball League championship. IN 2013 He was announced as the head coach for the Loveland Blue Jays who also competed in the MCBL.
McElroy then Coached for the Baltimore Redbirds who played in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate League. They finished 29-11 in First Place heading into the playoffs, But lost in the championship that year to the Bethesda Big Train.
During that 2016 Summer Season Coach McElroy had the luxury of working with 13 Draft picks between 2016 and 2019. They are as follows: Tyler Blohm (2016, 17th round Orioles), Mike Rescigno (2016 25th round Giants), Ryan Karstetter (2017, 19th round Tigers), Nick Fortes (2018, 4th round Marlins), Kyle Datres (2018 12th round Rockies), Dallas Woolfork (2018, 13th round A’s). Cameron Simmons (2018 15th round Rangers), Cole Aker (2018 18th round Cardinals), Marty Costes (2018 22nd Round Astros), Andrew Miller (2018, 40th round Marlins), Hunter Parsons (2019 19th round Mets), Utah Jones (2019 29th round Mariners), and Ryan Sloniger (2019 38th round Blue Jays).
As a player, McElroy was a Staring Pitcher for Davis and Elkins College from 2009-2012. was a shortstop for Harding University from 2007-2011. He was honorable mention all conference in 2009, and first team all conference in 2010 and 2011. He also was all region in 2011. He left Davis and Elkins as one of the all time leaders in wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, and pick offs.
McElroy is originally from Baltimore, MD. He received his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Davis and Elkins College in 2012. He plans to work towards receiving his masters while working at Southwest Baptist. He joins the Bearcats alongside his wife, Riley, and their 2 kids.
