Casey Martin begins his ninth year on the SBU coaching staff. Casey will work primarily with hitters and the infield defense. In his eight years working with SBU hitters Martin has helped produce thirty-six all-conference hitters and nine all-region hitters. The Bearcat’s offense has also set eight single season team records while the defense has set three single season team records. Overall, Martin’s players have set 36 different school or conference records in his seven years. The Bearcat offense has improved greatly under Martin, having five seasons where the team has hit over .300 and consistently ranking nationally in the top 50 in a number of categories. They led the MIAA in hitting in 2017 while finishing 8th nationally. Twice they have finished in the top 20 nationally. 

Coach Martin helped produce 4 All-MIAA hitters, 2 All-Region hitters, and 1 All-American in 2019. The Bearcats hit .280 on the season with 39 home runs and 261 runs batted in. Martin helped coach Caleb Sneed, who led the MIAA in batting average. 

The 2018 season saw the Bearcats produce 5 All-MIAA hitters and 1 All-Region hitter. The Bearcats lead the MIAA in triples and finished 6th in runs scored.


The 2017 season was a record year for the Bearcats hitters. Along with leading the MIAA in hitting, the Bearcats had 8 All-MIAA hitters. They also lead the MIAA in On-Base Percentage.


2016 was another banner year for the Bearcat offense. The Bearcats hit .317 as a team while slugging 46 home runs. They drew 225 walks while only striking out 287 times. The Bearcats infield turned 43 double plays during the season.


The Bearcats offense was once again a bright spot in 2015. The Bearcats hit .309 while belting over 40 homeruns. The Bearcats plate discipline improved steadily as the club drew over 200 walks. The Bearcats offensive philosophy shifted mid-season and saw the Bearcats steal 58 bases in their last 29 games giving them a total of 67 stolen bases on the season.

The 2014 season was a banner year offensively for the Bearcats. In addition to producing seven all-conference hitters, the Bearcats finished in the top 20 nationally in batting average, doubles, homeruns, slugging percentage, doubles per game and home runs per game. The Bearcats had a .321 batting average, scored over six runs a game and hit 43 homeruns on the year. The Bearcats finished third in the MIAA in total offense and fielding.

The Bearcats offense in 2013 pounded out 25 homeruns and averaged right at five runs per game. Martin helped lead the 2012 SBU offense to a .306 team batting average, the first time the Bearcats had hit above .300 since 2007. The Bearcat offense also generated their most hits in a season since 2000. The Bearcats also set a school record for Fielding Percentage, Assists and Putouts in a season. The Bearcats broke our tied four season or single game offensive records in 2012.

Martin played at SBU from 2002-2006. At SBU he received the Rex Brown Award for Excellence given annually to one male and one female senior athlete. He graduated in 2007 with a degree in Physical Education.

Martin has also served as head coach at Bowling Green HS for 2 years and Greenfield HS for one year. He has compiled a career record of 33-25. In his three years he produced 11 All-Conference players and 3 All-District players. Martin has also served in assistant coaching positions at Willard HS and Southwest Baptist University. Martin is married to Katie (Lollar). Casey and Katie have a daughter, Evie (3) and Eli (born June 2021). The couple resides in Bolivar.
