Columbia, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University men's cross-country team competed in a deep field Thursday morning at the Gans Creek Classic, taking on more than 250 runners in the men's 8K Black race.
Freshman Alex Flannery led the way for the Bearcats with a strong performance, crossing the finish line in 26:08.1 to place 58th overall. Flannery earned 47 team points and finished just outside the top 50 scoring runners in the field.
Senior Nathan Keck was the second Bearcat across the line, finishing in 27:00.0, while fellow senior Kaleb Nail followed with a time of 27:24.6. Sophomore Landon Jones finished fourth for SBU with a time of 28:17.7, while sophomore Kaleb Hamilton rounded out the Bearcats' scoring five in 29:51.0.
The Bearcats finished 18th overall with 478 points, narrowly behind NCAA Division I Lindenwood and ahead of Baker, Missouri-St. Louis and Bethel. The team will now get a long time to practice before returning to action on October 25th at the Missouri Western Invite.
