Indianapolis, Ind. – For the third straight year, SBU Athletics garners the GLVC James R. Spalding Overall Sportsmanship Award. In the seven years of being in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Bearcats have now won this award five times.
After each individual sports' season, each institution's coach ranks the top-three teams within the sport that displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season. The team with the highest point total is then named the sport's James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award winner. At the conclusion of the academic year, the institution that accumulated the highest point total across all sports is named the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Overall Award winner.
Under the direction of Athletic Director, Clark Sheehy, the Bearcats extend their lead for the most sportsmanship honors in GLVC history. This year, five SBU programs won the team sportsmanship award: men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field, and men's cross country.
