Bolivar, Mo. – SBU softball took on Arkansas Tech Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader falling in both games. The Nationally recognized Golden Suns moved the Bearcats to 15-25 on the season.
Game 1: Loss, 1-3
This game turned into a pitchers dual as only four runs were scored throughout the game. The Golden Suns opened up the scoring in the first inning scoring run. Two more runs followed in the third inning extending the lead to three. SBU answered in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of an error as
Lucy Sadewhite crossed the plate. Bearcats would strand three more runners throughout the game remaining scoreless.
Shalie Wooden started on the mound recording the loss to move her record to 8-8. She pitched 6.2 innings throwing four strikeouts, earning all three runs.
Taylor Howard relieved her in the 7
th for the final out of the inning.
Jalaya Ries,
Jacie Frencken, Gracee Brockman, and
Lucy Sadewhite all recorded hits in the game.
Game 2:
The first three innings started out as another pitcher's dual keeping the score knotted up at zero. Arkansas Tech opened up the scoring in the fourth with a home run to center field. In the bottom half of the fourth,
Kinleigh Kite recorded her first triple of the season scoring Gracee Brockman. From there, the Golden Suns would go on to score six straight completing the sweep.
Abby Leer started on the mound throwing 4.1 innings allowing two earned runs off four hits recording the loss moving to 5-9 on the season.
Cambri Van Loo and
Taylor Howard each saw time on the mound pitching an inning each. Kite led the team in hits with two closely trailed by Elsea, Reis, and Wooden all with one.
SBU will return to action this upcoming Saturday as they make the long trip to Fayette, Iowa to take on the Upper Iowa Peacocks. This doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
