Bolivar, Mo. – Southwest Baptist men's volleyball continued their home stretch Friday evening against University of Jamestown. The Bearcats won their first GLVC game of their inaugural season with a 3-1 victory moving their record to 9-9 (1-8 GLVC) on the season.
Both teams went back and forth in the first set but SBU came out on top winning the first set 25-22. Set two started with the Bearcats using that momentum to take an early lead and despite leading 22-19, the Jimmies went on a 1-6 run to tie the game up at a set a piece.
The Bearcats returned the favor in set three to start it off on a 6-1 run and held that lead all the way through. The lead extended to as much as 11 once they won the set 25-14. Southwest Baptist continued to put the pressure on in the fourth set taking a quick lead and built it to as much as nine. The men's volleyball team completed history for the program winning the set 25-18, clinching the match 3-1.
Freshman
Silas Riggins had one of the best games of his young career with 10 kills off only 11 attacks for a .909 hitting percentage. He added along four blocking assists and a serving ace.
Keahi Kaneakua set a new career high with 50 assists in the game averaging 12.5 assists per set. He has now recorded over 400 assists in his career.
Donel Sengele tagged along 15 kills while
Evan Strahlendorf and
Darrell Kosechequetah added 14 kills and 12 kills respectively.
Southwest Baptist will look to sweep University of Jamestown on Saturday in the Meyer Center. This game will take place at 2:00 p.m.
