Beach Volleyball Goes 1-3 in Trip Down to Texas

Belton, Texas – SBU beach volleyball traveled down to Texas Wednesday and Thursday for a four-game set at the UMHB Tournament. The Bearcats went 1-3 in the tournament to move to 4-13 on the season.
 
Game 1 vs Mary Hardin Baylor: Loss, 0-5
In the first game of the set, the Bearcats lost all five points losing in two sets each point. Rory Stanley and Sara Younkin had the closest match falling in set one 12-21 and set two 16-21 at the #4 spot. The #1 pair in Melanie Cox and Addi Fanning score double digits each set falling 15-21, 10-21.
 
Game 2 vs Concordia University Texas: Win, 5-0
Southwest Baptist swapped that momentum in game two of the day easily cruising past their opponents only going to three sets once. Cox and Fanning won as the #1 pair 21-18, 21-14. Maya Keller and Bre Perez had the closest game of the match going to three sets 12-21, 21-16, & 15-7. Abbey Garner & Reagan Hoerning (21-11, 21-18), Sara Younkin & Rory Stanley (22-20, 21-13), and Fayth Kaminski & Savannah Chance (21-18, 21-11) rounded out the final three points for the Bearcats
 
Game 3 vs Mary Hardin-Baylor: Loss, 0-5
The second game against UMHB went about the same as the first, except one match went to three sets. Garner and Hoerning in the 4th spot took the first set 21-7, then narrowly fell in the next two 18-21, 14-16 to drop the point. Cox and Fanning were the next closest pair at 11-21, 15-21 falling at the #1 spot.
 
Game 4 vs Texas A&M-Texarkana: Loss, 0-5
In the final game of the weekend, the Bearcats and Eagles took to the court in five close matches, but all went the way of the Eagles. Cox and Fanning as the #1 pair took their battle to three sets 21-15, 16-21, and 12-15. Keller and Perez at the #2 spot narrowly fell in the 1st set 19-21 and couldn't find their rhythm in the second set for a 16-21 score. The pairs of Hoerning/Garner and Stanley/Younkin each had the exact same score in both sets 17-21 & 15-21. Rounding out the final game was Kaminski and Chance falling 11-21 in set one but battling in the second set 20-22.
 
Southwest Baptist will return to action this Saturday for two matches against Missouri State. These games will start at 11:00 AM in Springfield, Missouri.
