Bolivar, Mo. – SBU baseball began a four-game series against their opponents from Rolla, dropping game one in a tight contest 9-10. That lost moves the Bearcats them to 13-16 (7-10 GLVC) on the season.
The Missouri S&T Miners rode into town on an 11-game win streak and brought that momentum with them to start the game on a 4-0 run. SBU would strike back in the 4
th and back-to-back home runs from
Ryan Ray and
Reese Ruderman making it a one run game. In the very next half inning, the Miners fought back with three runs of their own scratching out the dent SBU just made.
The Bearcats continued to claw back in the 5
th and 6
th with home runs from
Jared Pugrad and
Raydley Legito each on their first pitch in that at bat. One Miner run and inning later, Legito did the exact same thing, this time hitting it over the scoreboard for his second home run of the game. Ray felt left out of the two-home run party slapping one just over the fence in the very next at back making it a 7-8 game.
Missouri S&T added two insurance runs in the 8
th that were instantly wiped out by the SBU offense. Pugrad recorded his second RBI of the game in a double down the left field line followed by
Hayden Prewitt who grounded out to the second basemen which allowed the runner on third to score. Standing at a 9-10 game in the 9
th inning, both teams went blank to hand the Miners their 12
th win in a row.
Ryne Kaiser started on the mound and threw 4.2 innings allowing seven runs and throwing three strikeouts but recorded the loss.
Koen Van T Klooster took over for 2.1 innings allowing three runs, then
Nash Crosby threw the final two blanking the Miners in that time with three strikeouts.
These two teams will be back in action Friday afternoon at Dodson Field starting at 12:00 p.m.
