Freshman Van Loo Sets Career Save Record in Split with Cardinals

Bolivar, Mo. –  SBU Bearcat Softball split a GLVC doubleheader Sunday afternoon, taking game one 3–1 before falling in a tight 11–10 battle in game two. Bearcats move their record to 19-29 (8-14 GLVC) on the season.

Game One:
SBU earned a 3–1 win in the opener, using a three-run fourth inning to secure the victory.

After a scoreless first three innings, the Bearcats broke through in the fourth. Graccee Brockman and Ashley Gruben reached to set the table, and Joscelyn Bennett delivered an RBI single to open the scoring. SBU added two more runs on wild pitches to take a 3–0 lead.

William Jewell answered with a solo home run in the fifth, but SBU pitching held firm the rest of the way. Abby Leer worked through the middle innings before turning it over in the seventh.

Freshman Cambri Van Loo (Holts Summit, Mo.) closed out the game to earn her sixth career save, setting a new SBU program record as the Bearcats secured the 3–1 win.

Game Two:
SBU dropped a tough 11–10 decision in game two despite a strong offensive performance.

The Bearcats jumped out early with five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Jacie Frencken and a solo shot from Kinleigh Kite. William Jewell responded and eventually took a 6–5 lead in the fourth, but SBU answered right back with two runs to regain the lead.

In the fifth, Emily Titus extended the advantage with a three-run home run, putting the Bearcats ahead 10–7.

William Jewell rallied again in the sixth, scoring four runs to take an 11–10 lead. SBU threatened in the seventh, loading the bases, but were unable to push across the tying run.

SBU finished the day with a split, moving forward after a strong showing at the plate and a record-setting performance in the circle.
