Box Score Bolivar, Mo. – SBU men's tennis kept their GLVC tournament hopes alive with a win over the Rockhurst Hawks Saturday afternoon 4-3. This win moved them to 6-8 (2-1 GLVC) on the season.
It took no time for the match to become intense as players were shouting after every point one. The momentum started on the side of the Bearcats as they were able to claim the doubles point.
Juani Morresi and
Alejandro Beneyto Sanchez dominated their doubles opponent 6-0 at the #2 spot. After falling at the #1 spot, it came down to
Romain Ramuz and
Federico Riolo who clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win.
The match intensified into the singles as each and every point was fought for. After dropping at the #3 spot, Beneyto Sanchez added another point to the Bearcats total winning at the #1 spot 6-3, 6-3. Rockhurst took control of the match winning the next two points at the #2 and #4 spot putting the pressure on SBU. Morresi handled that pressure with ease nearly blanking his opponent in two sets 6-0, 6-4 at the #5 spot. It all came down to the freshman from Serbia,
Oliver Kocanovic who clinched the match for Southwest Baptist. He downed his opponent 6-0, 6-3 at the #6 spot.
SBU men's tennis will now set their sights on rival Drury University and a spot in the conference tournament. Should the Bearcats win the match, they will clinch their spot in the GLVC Championships. This match will take place in Bolivar, Missouri at the John A. Bryan Tennis Center on April 25
