Box Score 2 Quincy, Ill. — To start off Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play for the 2026 season, Southwest Baptist University women's tennis took on two Quincy University and Truman State securing two wins to advance to 3-10 (2-0 GLVC) on the season.
Vs Quincy; Win, 5-2
On Friday, SBU defeated Quincy University by a final score of 5-2. Bearcats started with dominant victories in the doubles point at the #1 & #2 spot.
Isabella Canedo and
Defne Ursan won at #1 6-1 and
Maria Clara Zotti and
Sammi Liu won 6-3 at the #2 spot claiming the doubles point.
Liu brought that momentum into singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the #1 spot. Clara Zotti (6-0, 6-3) and Canedo (7-5, 6-3) clinched the game for Southwest Baptist at the #3 and #4 spot respectively. Adding on to the total was
Olivia McGruder winning her first match of the season at the #6 spot, 6-1 and 6-2.
Vs Truman State; Win, 6-1
On Saturday, SBU had an even more dominant victory over the Bulldogs only dropping one point. Canedo/Ursan won their doubles match 6-1 and Clara Zotti/Liu won 6-2 clinching the doubles point for Southwest Baptist.
Liu concluded the weekend with an easy sweep over the #1 spot 6-1, 6-1. Ursan added to the point total with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #2 spot. Clara Zotti, Canedo, and McGruder finished with three more points for the Bearcats at the #3, #4, and #6 spots respectively.
SBU will continue their season on Friday, April 17th at home against William Jewell at approximately 1:00 p.m.
